Hello, all,
I have been recently reinvesting a lot of time into this old game and have fallen in love with it, again. However, despite some poking around the files I’ve been doing, recently, I have came across a question which has been sitting in the back of my mind since first getting Panzers Phase III. Can I add new units for the enemy AI to use when playing on the Skirmish mode? It has been a long time favorite, but playing against the Matildas or Perishings over and over is getting old, again. I found that I could access the files for the AI from the unpacker, but I’m too much of a novice and wouldn’t know how to change the AI’s units I battle against. It would be much appreciated if someone could offer me some pointers on Howe to do this.
~Thanks Kavinsky

Well, thanks for the offer. I do indeed have another question, perhaps one that would also fall into customizing and modding. Is there a way to allow for me to transfer the single player campaign from Panzers Phase I into Panzers Phase III/Panzers Phase II?
I managed to unpack the files for the levels and aside from some issues involving decals and certain elements being absent from the maps - I was curious to know if there was a way to implement files and some of the set pieces from Phase I into Phase III’s files and then have the single player campaign from Phase I to be played? If so, I’d be curious to know.

Hmm idk, but the map modders maybe like 888pablo888 (this one still alive i think) can solve your question, btw, roadie, an ex member (i say es member why he left the forum time ago) was learning nad showing us about things in the map editor, his posts still there in the modding and customization sub forum
About how transfer the phase 1 to phase 2/3 map and missions, i remember one guy who manage transfer the missions and maps, probably in modding and customization sub forum, but idk if works or not
And about modding of how create new units, probably you want contact with me or Sgto_JD, we're able to make new units but not released yet, actually we have some problems with the obsolete 4D editor and for now, our work are stopped for the moment http://panzers.ucoz.com/forum/3-824-1

It’s interesting, since I had once tried to simply add the main pack file to Panzers Phase III’s files and see how it’d go. It actually almost loaded the first level, but ran into an error regarding set pieces and such. It seems like all I need to do is add some of the files from Panzers Phase I into Phase III’s files (somewhere) to have it fully load and recognize some of these pieces.
On a side note, I did add some of the original maps from the campaign in Phase I into the Skirmish and Multiplayer mode (after converting them to multiplayer maps and deleting unrecognized variables and such) I was able to use the same maps for Domination and Team Deathmatch.
In regards to units, I think the only thing I’d consider is adding some more factions. Adding some units like the Legionary Romanians or Nationalist/Falangist Spanish and Republican Spanish would be interesting (virtually no games explore the Spanish Civil War). However, Phase III has a pretty nice variety, as is, and includes some weapons I’d never think to see in the Panzers universe of gaming.
Although, I do have another question. The Skirmish mods and multiplayer mode featured the original team flags for StormRegion.com but it struck me like there was a file somewhere that featured the logo and could possibly be switched out. If this were to be the case, I was curious to know if there was a way for me to do so and if it was accessible via swapping files?
Thanks
~Kavinsky

Hey Kavinsky I have been reading a few of your previous posts and if you are still looking forward modifiying units for AI in skrimish battles, I have an idea: Use the unpacker and browse the main.pak file. The first files you will see are these:

https://nsa39.casimages.com/img/2018/05/04/180504065320378186.jpg

It corresponds (more or less) to the armies of AI according to the difficulty set and the Early or Late Area. I never experimented them but I assume it is what your are looking for. Extract these text files and you will be able to modify AI Sets as you want.

Thanks, Ryder.
So, all I would have to do is simply change the name of the unit, in place, and save the configuration setting? Where would I find the specific names of all units I am aiming to use? I would assume it’d also be in the main.pak but I can never be sure.

Run the editor and do like you wanted to place unit on the map. You will find all the units name you want.
Once you have the names of the units, you can change all the army-1.ini you want.

So Kavinsky, does that answer your question ?

I have made an example right there:

Hey, so I tried to edit the .ini but it appears to have no impact on the units I alter. I changed the original GB units in all of the early AI files to accommodate more allied variants, like the Polish and French units. I'm not sure, but it appears that there has been no change to the actual AI I am going up against or with. I also changed some of the German AI .ini saves, as well, but those appear to have the same issue. Am I saving these changes in the wrong location - since I'm operating out of the file's extracted? Thanks for the replies.

I have noticed that the extracted .ini does not seem to reflect the actual .ini which controls the AI. Could it be that I have to repack it into the game files, to make it work?
Please respond, as soon as you can.

Hey, so I just want to make a quick update. I figured out what I was doing incorrectly. I was storing the "ai" file in the wrong folder and it was having no effect on my actual "ai" file. I think it's really a cool thing, but I do have one more question. Is there a way to edit the "ai" file to allow for more factions to be added?
There's loads of Hungarian, Polish, and French vehicles and infantry in the game files and I thought it would be even cooler to alter the files to allow for me to further divide and add new factions to the Skirmish AI. This also makes me wonder if I can edit the "units" files to allow for me to do this. Any thoughts or information would be appreciated.
